THE CLEANUP NOTEBOOK
Not everything cleared out needs to be thrown away.
Reuse and donate where practical
Sound furniture, usable tools, and suitable building materials may have another life. Check donation acceptance rules before loading a vehicle or setting items aside. Protect personal information and remove unsafe or damaged items from the reuse stream.
Separate recycling thoughtfully
Cardboard, metal, electronics, and clean construction materials may have dedicated outlets. Local programs and facility rules vary. Ask about approved separation rather than assuming everything in a mixed dumpster will be recycled.
Handle hazardous material through authorized channels
Chemicals, batteries, fuels, and suspect contaminated material require appropriate handling. Consult local household hazardous waste or specialized disposal guidance. Never pour liquids down a drain or hide restricted material in general waste.
Choose a clear disposal plan
Tell the rental provider what you are removing and ask about accepted materials and disposal requirements. Keep project loads within the agreement. Responsible cleanup depends on honest material descriptions, safe loading, and an appropriate destination for each waste type.
This guide is general information. Accepted materials, weight limits, permits, and rental terms must be checked for your particular project and location.
